An eternity ring is a nice gift if she hasn't got one, or diamond stud earrings or a weekend away. The traditional gift associated with a first anniversary is paper, so perhaps if you think she'd like it something really lovely and personalised or a posh notebook by Smythson of Bond St would be appropriate if you think she would like it (try http://uk.smythson.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=2). If all else fails - ask! Good luck.
Although it's traditional that paper should be given as first wedding anniversary presents , I didn't think that this really applied to the husband's present. I was always under the impression that the eternity ring was symbolic of your first year of marriage and a pledge of the commitment between you both - hence the eternity ring. I think it tends to be the norm amongst a lot of people but different strokes for different folks. Go with what suits you both. If you're wife is like most typical women , then she'll be putting out plenty of hints ..... so listen very carefully !!! Happy anniversary when it comes x
