Finding an old friend
4 Answers
When sorting out a cupboard I have found a wedding announcement of a college friend, who was married at the Temple Israel in Johannesburg, S.A . on March 31st 1960.
I have heard nothing from her since, though on the back of the card she wrote 'Will write when I am settled'.
Her name was Delia Freedman, she came from Leeds where her father was a tailor. She married someone called Walter Livingstone.
Does anyone know anything about her, or have any ideas how I can find out what happened to her?
We still have an annual reunion each July in Yorkshire, though we left college in July 1952.
It would be great to have news of Delia to take with me this year!
I know it's a long shot, but I have faith in the Answer Bank Members!
I have been told by China Doll that Dot Hawkes may be able to point me in the right direction..
Here's hoping

I know Delia's father was a tailor and they lived in Roundhay, Leeds, which I have the impression was an affluent area. She was certainly comfortably off, and her underwear was the envy of us all (so soon after the war!) In fact it was stolen (yes, really!) and because it was so expensive the police were called!
But the announcement of her marriage was definitely the last I ever heard from her,
The full wording was:
Mr & Mrs E Freedman
Have pleasure in announcing the wedding
of their younger daughter
Delia to Walter
only son of
the late Mr & Mrs J Livingstone
which will take place at the
Temple Israel
Paul Nel Street Johannesburg
at 7pm on 31st March 1960.
And in handwriting on the back
1 huntingdon Lodge
P.O Sandown
Johannesburg
S.A
Will write when I am settled,
Lots of love, Delia.
Don't know if that helps??
