How can I gain access to web pages that are limited to certain countries or areas?
I would like to gain access to US web pages such as ABC, MTV and many others. However because i live in the UK, every-time i try to view videos or use a specific part of the web pages a message pops up telling me that i cant. I Hear that it has something to do with the IP and Proxy server setting, is this true ( if so how would i even change the settings?) , is there a way around this problem
please help
oh and to make matters perhaps a little more complicated . . . I am a Mac OS X user, the net browser that is use is Safari

I don't have to try ... I AM a smartass .... and you are a potty mouth (and we all know what an ass does in a potty!!!)
Ethel love, i wouldn't even be caught dead in a synagogue lol</p> 'smatter you too buisy cleaning your jackboots?
Instead of whining like a lost puppy - fire up google and answer your own question... also look up anti semitism.

hugh
(I have a friend called hugh ... but his last name is janus!)
>> I object to having to read all that nonsense <<
I can see you are part of the moral majority ... the type who get so offended at having to sit through 5 hours of the most offensive .....
it depends on the question ... sensible (legal) ones ones always get an answer.... or at least an attempt at one
if someone is asking how to unlock a phone, or where to download pirated stuff ... there are plenty of forums out there that do offer such advice ... here just isn't one of them right place.
it's strange that you are offended by people who won't support or advise on these things
(strangely in the past ppl have been accused of being liars when they've said they don't use pirated software!!)
learn to use the off button! if you are offended.
and if you want to learn street smarts ... start by being smart yourself.
you don't have to read to the bottom of the page to see if it gets even more offensive (but I suspect you will!)

Ok, if that is your reason for logging on to Answerbank then there are plenty of people who will not log in because they are not going to waste their time with such drivel. I am not adopting a moral stance, I have been around on this Earth much longer than you and I know that the written word is very powerful. Perhaps we should allocate a special section for those who compete to see how vile they can get!

"Ok, if that is your reason for logging on to Answerbank"
Hugh Spencer, ACTheTROLL has posted over 1300 answers on AB, mostly in technology and its subsections, and mostly very helpful and knowledgeable.
I can only find one answer in technology from you (though perhaps there are more) and that was an answer to your own question. I can see for myself ACTheTROLLS' reason for logging on, I'm puzzled as to what yours might be...

why hugh
is that suggestion so you can strutt your stuff?
so the menu would read technology, travel vitriol and weather. Again there are sites that accomodate that ... this isn't the place.
Normally at this point I'd pack in ... but I'm intrigued
which side of the fence are you on ?...
I've never said it's morally wrong I don't do morals ... what I said was this isn't the place...
(I think in a civil way ...)
If you don't agree ... that's ok ... we can beg to differ ....
but my interpretation of yours is that you feel that val is the injured party and deserves the instructions she requested ....
(from what she says she now wants info OR posts supporting her views).
.... despite (if we are talking morals) her having cast the first stone (perhaps another section for fishwives?)
Once she called ethel stupid ... I don't see any reason to entertain or remain civil .... (this isn't defending ethel (she would have done a good enough job of that herself if she'd chosen to retaliate).
I just don't like her "'tude"
perhaps you could research the subject and give the answer she needs - it's really quite a simple thing to do.

And back to the answer.
You could get around it by tunnelling through to a US user, with something like Tor (google it). Pretty easy to set up, even under Mac OS X. But probably impractical, as it'll be slow.
Or, if you know of a proxy server in the US (or are prepared to pay to have the privelage of using one), then you can do that (google US proxy server.
Both of these will make it out like you're in the US already.
Or, if you're just trying to watch a US TV programme, then use a torrent site to download -- thepiratebay.org for example.
