Leaving babies in a car parked on a public road
24 Answers
I am horrified that two children (who I would consider babies) have been left asleep in a car parked on a public road opposite my house - the mother has gone into a house a few doors away with no off-road parking - I don't think she can see the car from the house she is in - I have to go upstairs to see that the babes are ok - that is sleeping still and not crying - I have sat and watched the car to make sure nothing untoward happens - the mother comes out and checks on her children about every 20 mins or so - should I interfere? Has she not been aware of the Maddie McCann situation? When my children were that age I sat in the car with them until they woke up or took them in the house! Am I going mad and being a "net curtain twitcher!!?" - NO i DON'T HAVE NET CURTAINS

I personally would be very tempted to alert the police!
My heart is in my throat just thinking about and theyre not even mine!

I think I would have to intervene and face the wrath of the mother. It's one thing to leave your children in your own driveway if they are asleep in the car, and I have done this whilst I unload shopping etc, leaving the car door open. (and I do live rurally where noone walks past my house and our house is way back from the road).
However, I would never leave children asleep in a car on the side of a road under any circumstances. I presume it is locked so that the children cannot be snatched? However, being locked is just as dangerous in many ways.

no you are not mad or becoming a twitcher. I have no kids myself and am not even particularly fond of them but I find myself constantly AMAZED by the stupid things some parents do....like leaving two kids in a car at the petrol station with the keys in the ignition....letting them run out of the supermarket and play outside while she shops on regardless....letting them approach touch and torment strange dogs....I could go on but I begin to foam at the mouth after a while....if it was me i would be on the phone to the police saying that you thought that the kids had been abandonned!!
But it's net twitchers that often save the day - not that I am saying you are one lol
TBH You don't know for sure that mum can't see the car form where ever she is in the house. It may be she has full view of her car from, perhaps, the same view point as yourself - an upstairs window?
I agree it would be better for her to have taken the children, sleeping or not, into the house with her. Lets hope the curtain twitchers in your close keep an eye on them until she takes them in or drives away

It is unlikely that the car will be hit, this is just a non-through road in a village -so little likelihood of an accident - I just can't understand how she has left them - I have a driveway that is discrete from the road and I wouldn't leave my children unattended in the car regardless - I am thinking about asking them to park the car on my drive but will I then be responsible for the children?
