If it's for no value then it should just be a �40 Land Registry fee and you can DIY with a TR1 from the Land Registry sent with an AP1 form to the change the register...

As Ethel said, the Land Registry are very helpful.
I have to say that as a solicitor myself I'd only charge about �150.00 plus VAT to do a simple transfer like this!
I'd want a breakdown for anything that you've paid over already or they are claiming from you!
All fees and the basis on which fees are charged should have been set out in a standard client care letter which we are obliged to do by our regulatory body.
Did you get anything like that you can reference it against?
I am guessing the search fees are no search indemnity insurance and Land Registry searches which should only be about �7.00.
You can invoke their complaints procedure by writing to the complaints partner at the firm asking for them to review the fees. They should respond in 2 weeks.
If you get no joy you can check with the SRA...
