Personally I think it is true - it is not rocket science to work out that if you burn more calories than you take in, weight will be lost.
So, are fat people lazy overeaters?

Ok OK there are few conditions that make it hard not to put on weight but even those do not some how bypass the laws of physics. I do have sympathy for the Prada willy type ones though must be very tough being constantly hungry. But the "it's my glands/DNA" mob are just making excuses. So on the whole flipflop I agree, and I'm not exactly a jocky myself but I accept that my weight etc is my problem.
Of course it's true - and I speak as someone on the portly side myself, before anyone takes offence. For me, it was more lack of exercise and eating the wrong things rather than eating too much, but since eating more sensibly and having a daily 25 minute walk to work rather than a 5 minute drive, I've lost over a stone.
I haven't dieted, I'm not going for any 5 mile runs, and I detest gyms (they take more pounds out of your wallet than off your waist), so it doesn't take that much. Willpower is the most important thing.

Jaw droppingly poor taste...and without the saving grace of being funny.
In answer to flip_flop's post - it actually gets harder to stay in shape the older you get (I read that the body's metabolism changes during middle age enabling the maintenance of fat storage).
But in general, it's true - if you eat a balanced diet and you get down the gym/golf club/swimming pool etc, you are more likely to stay in shape.

Its not a rocket science. Of course it becomes difficult in the later age as SP said. But it still helps if you stayed in shape when younger. An old saying what you do when you are young, decides your old age health. Few medical conditions and genuine ifs and buts are always there otherwise how would someone die if they have a heart of a teenager at the age of 85.

I weigh a 20lbs less than when I was 20, simply because I enjoy running and (weirdly) I like working out at the gym.
However I can guarantee that I would be the size of Lenny Henry now if I didn't find a physical activity that I enjoyed when I was in my mid 20s.
It's easy to say 'get thee to a gym wobbly gut' but in all honesty - for most people, finding the time is an issue. And if they do find the time, frankly - gyms are boring places full of posers - which is intimidating.
I think that's one of the big issues - finding something that you enjoy doing - which doesn't seem like a chore...and having the time to do it regularly.
Incidentally, running to the kebab shop doesn't really count.
