ccj/default
1 Answers
ive had a ccj on my credit report since about 2000-01, it was for 200 for an item i got from a catalogue which i honestly thought i had paid for with 2 cheques by return when i received a default notice. i never received any court papers informing me that i was being issued with a ccj. i no i was stupid and should of looked into this when i found out it was on my report. I have recently signed up with experian and have seen my credit report, the ccj states satisfied Nov 07. Im confused as to why as i never paid anything to them at that time. I have just noticed a change now on the credit report which nows says its a satisfied default and not a ccj, does anyone know why it would of changed. thanks

However, whether it was a CCJ or not, you can still be chased for the money if you haven't paid. If it was a CCJ the liability remains indefinitely; if it was not then the creditor can no longer enforce it by taking you to Court if 6 years have passed with no payment or acknowledgement of the debt, but the debt does still exist.
I was under the impression that CCJs and defaults are removed entirely from the CRA records after 6 years, so it may be worth querying this with Experian.
