Teacher convicted of distrubution of narcotic
I was arrested and charged with two charges of distrubution of a narcotic, selling a few Percocet pill from my disabled partner's prescription to a friend who claimed they were in pain and asked if I could help. My partner worked for with thoroughbred hordses which ultimately led to many medical problems and his total disabilities Throughout his career the trading of pills, although I know illegal and of which I was never involved was and still is a common occurrence at the racetrack. I was set up by a confidential informant whose husband is trying to get a lengthy jail time reduced for a huge cocaine bust. Why they picked on little guy me I do not know? I am cooperating fully with the arresting officers and have information that they think could be valuable to them. This is my first offense and my lawyer seems to think that we can either get the charged dismissed or at least reduced to a simple possession charge. I sold the pill twice for a total of $300 to keep bill collectors and debt collectors for seizing his personal property and home, and to have money ot pay for some 8+ prescription he takes daily. I know what I did was wrong, but am afraid that I will lose my job. I am a music teacher and the month of December and Jnauary are quite busy with concerts and All-State Honors Choirs. In addition, of the two years that I have been teaching in this school system (I have a total of 11 years teaching with an unblemished record and glowing evaluations). It breaks my heart that I will be letting my students down at a time whne they need me most. Although I have only been charge and not convicted, what can I do to save my job? I also have proven to be an an excellent educator with 12 choirs performing at different choral competitions and have won each competions. Does anyone have suggestions on how to possibly keep my job ( I love my kids and their wonderful talent!). Should I take the initiative and talk with our school superintendent immediately>
