Bomber Command Memorial

I have been encouraged to put this item into this section as well as 'Military' to get more coverage,
After many thwarted attempts in the past there is going to be erected a memorial to the memory of over 55,000 aircrew who lost their lives in WW2. At the end of WW2 the politicians under Winston Churchill were almost dismayed at the power of Bomber Command in helping to end the war so they just about ignored the enormous efforts put in the BC aircrews. They were looking out for their political careers and even the public, although applauding all the efforts made by BC during the war, were more ready to praise Fighter Command and its efforts during the Battle of Britain. They were reluctant to praise a force which took the battle into the enemy's own territory. There wasn't a military force which made so many sacrifices during WW2. Use Google Search to find the Bomber Command Memorial site.

All this planning and interest started earlier this year or even before but it has now been taken over by a group of interested parties including the Bomber Command Association. The last I heard was that a site had been chosen on the edge of Regents Park, close to St John's Wood, Lords Cricket Ground where many of the aircrew cadets first joined the RAF, me included. Previously many of us were looking to the Midlands towards Lincolnshire for a suitable site, especially as it was known as Bomber County.
I have a Bomber Command Commemoration Medal which was not officially issued and is worn below the campaign medals. I know that for many years many people have tried to right the wrong of not issuing an official medal but all that takes us back to Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee in 1945, a disgraceful scenario enacted in the face of Sir Arthur Harris. If you know anymore about a medam I would be pleased to hear.
