Carol Thatcher needs to apologise , surely!
39 Answers
Now, cannot understand why Carol Thatcher will not apologise for her unkind + foolish comment about the French tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ?! It was totally unacceptable comparing him to a ********( a swear word to my ears). The whole term ******** is deeply offensive- not just to the black community yet to every race( am white yet my ancestors including everyone on this entire planet are black- scientifically proven). Find it deeply offensive that toy ********* are still sold in parts of the country, too!! ********* come from the Black and White Minstrels ( white people who dressed up as black people in the bizarre name of entertainment)deeply wrong + deeply embarrassing. Care not that she made that comment in the green room, off air, she still needs to make an apology to the viewers yet also to the tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga himself. She says it was a lighthearted joke- well it was not amusing, not big, not funny or clever + an apology is needed as soon as possible. What does everyone else think? Hugs, Bea :-)

Just coming to this - and it seems strange that Ms. T. apparently refuses to apologise for a tactless and insensitive observation.
Maybe as she gets older she inherits more of her mother's main character trait - the inability to see that she may be wrong, and that other people have a point of view which needs to be heard and acted upon.

I can't see what all the fuss is about, she made a (joking) comment in private,
Where I live, we have a shop that sells Golliwigs, we also have a nunber of African, Asian and Carribean residents that use this shop, how many complaints, None.
The people that are affronted by this remark, are the White Politically Correct idiots, no-one else.

Lonnie- Most certainly am not a PC person, yet , will always speak up when feel someone is disrespectful to any race or any group of peoples or to any individual . It is not idiotic to say that those ghastly gw's are racist. Care not about where you live or whether or not anyone has complained about the gw's for sale in your local shop- they are still not right or respectful- not dependent on how many have or have not complained anyhow. It was valid, not a mere fuss, that Carol T was asked to apologise for her not at all funny comment that was disrespectful to both the tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga + disrespectful to every race not just blacks or mixed race. If you are in the public eye then no comment is really private- you are even more answerable for your words as well as your actions than a non famous person would be- rightly so, too.
Can we please have an intelligent debate here. Thank you!
Warm wishes to all, Bea :-)

What is this country coming to when someone is castigated for a remark they made IN PRIVATE?
I still have a collection of badges from collecting Robertsons labels when I was a child. I also have a much loved g/w doll I was given when I was very young. Does this make me a racist?
At the church I attend, an elderly, white member of the choir has hair that can only be described as "lively" and very much resembles the hair on my g/w doll. Would it be racist of me to compare his hair to the hair on a doll?
The world is going mad.

How about w0g? after all that's just a contraction isn't it?
Spare me I think I've heard all the arguments before.
If I'd used that in my work environment I'd not be surprised to get dragged up in front of HR.
I think banning her is reasonably harse but she's not really been exactly overwhelming in her "appology".
If you don't think it's offensive all I can suggest is you go into a few London pubs in predominantly black neighbourhoods and start saying :
"Oh what a lot of G0lliw0gs in here"
in a loud voice and see what happens.
