I am doing some research on everyday life in Vietnam before the war: traditional clothing, food, family names, customs etc Can anyone please help in any way? JVH

Vietnamese always travel dressed up to the nines

Names - just a word. My driver was called tan which meant 'addition'.

History When France fell in 1940 there was concluded a secret treaty by which the French were un molested a(that is if they turned up for work they were not interned) and the Japanese marched into the French Indo- china.

Pere Teilhard de Chardin for example mentioned that durng the war all the institutions were closed in Peking (not part of Vietnam I agree - but Vietnam was part of china up to 1000 AD) but clearly could move around Peking when all the other Europeans were being starved beaten, and tortured - incinerated and experimented upon. Not very many people know this.
