Brixton - taxis and hotels?
3 Answers
I have booked to go to a gig on a Saturday night at Brixton Academy. Only after booking the tickets did I discover there are engineering works that night taking out half the tube services. Ordinarily I would just about have time to get the last tube to Paddington to get my train but think it will be difficult, if not impossible, with no tubes running.
So we are thinking of getting a hotel for the night to take the pressure off. I understand Brixton is rather rough, so we thought maybe pick somewhere near a tube that IS working, and get a taxi to/from the gig.
Can anyone recommend a good hotel near one of the other tube stations, and estimate the cost of a cab from there to Brixton academy?
Thanks

The northern line is not far from Brixton. You have some hotels between Clapham South and Clapham Common tube but there aren't a great deal of hotels round there. Alternatively you can get a bus out of Brixton very easily to a Northern line tube. In fact you could even walk to Clapham North - this would take about 15 minutes. Try the buses on Acre Lane to Clapham Common, 345 outside the Academy goes to Stockwell. There plenty of buses heading towards Oval too.
