.. & finds too late that men betray.
What charm can soothe her melancholy?
What art can wash her guilt away?

the only art her guilt to cover,
to hide her shame from every eye,
to give repentence to her lover
and wring his bosom, is - to DIE ........???????????????

WTF? No bl00dy way. That's a bit sexist - would you write that about a man who had stooped to folly? No - he'd be described as stooping to conquer & given a pat on the back.
Honestly, thank goodness things have moved on.

It's a poem from The Vicar of Wakefield, whoever he is. Condescending ass.
Forgive me sqad, I'm a little fey today, hey - that rhymes.
salla, All this poetry crap is a bit on the heavy side isn't it.
Better than the interminable 'chuckles', in my opinion, tonyav.........
oh dear i should of died a long time ago then.....
Question Author
Me too Fluffy...me too.

I'm just doing something different tone. Can't think of any jokes today other than the Quasimodo one. Actually, most poetry is crap - I'd rather have a love song written about me, than loads of pretentious poetry. Something along the lines of Layla, or Something in the way she moves - that Patti was a lucky lady.
agree with ya jack. salla try this one for size.....

The happiest moment in a woman's life
Is when she hears the turn of her lover's key
In the lock, and pretends to be asleep
When he enters the room, trying to be
Quiet but clumsy, bumping into things,
And she can smell the liquor on his breath
But forgives him because she has him back
And doesn't have to sleep alone.

The happiest moment in a man's life
Is when he climbs out of bed
With a woman, after an hour's sleep,
After making love, and pulls on
His trousers, and walks outside,
And pees in the bushes, and sees
The high August sky full of stars
And gets in his car and drives home.
salla, do not post any jokes on CB, It seems that some user's seem to have had a sense of humour by pass operation. !
Question Author
I like that Ankou, another load of sexist crap, but I like it ;-)
I assume that was aimed at me, tonyav ?

Like the other posters who have mentioned it, I am bemused that the Jokes which have been proliferating on CB haven't been shunted off to the 'Jokes' section......or indeed weren't posted there in the first place.
I didn't mention any names jack.
You didn't.

However, seeing as I am the only one expressing such a sentiment on this thread, was it unreasonable to assume it was meant for me ?
i'm starting to feel a little follyish, hmmmmmm
No jack, It's not unreasonable, but has i say I didn't mention any names and nor shall I.
Question Author
Ooh yes - a bit of folly on a friday.
Let's go follying fluffy, and never mind the dying bit - that's rubbish. This is the permissive society and the 20th century - follying is allowed.
there is a joke section

salla, that as may be, but there are many who live such a life, no ?
So it WAS meant for me, ok. AT least we've established that..........no need for further disembling.

Why do you consider poetry to be crap, tonyav ?
Question Author
Many many Ankou. But not me... I prefer to sleep alone ;-)
jack, I don't consider all poetry to be crap, I quite like limericks actually.
Cue an influx of limericks...............:o(
