Hi all, I have recently got engaged, and as its my first time, so I was wondering whether its traditional to have a "cake" at the engagement party? Silly question I know, but how foolish will I look when the expectant guests are possibly dissapointed by the lack of cake!
Thanks in advance

If B00 answers you, you ought to ignore what she says, as she is seriously biased in favour of cake for every occasion, and upon every opportunity.............

However, I would say it is NOT traditional to have a cake.....................whether or not it has become usual, is a different matter.........

it took you 5 hours B00, very slow!
wow, do people have engagement parties??
Was at work Chuck, logged on 5 minutes ago and zero'd in on it, so not bad going really.

Ok, in all seriousness, no I don't think it's traditional to have a cake at an engagement party, but like rinkins said, if you want cake, get a cake and be damned!

Actually, being pedantic, there's bugger all traditional about having a party to celebrate your engagement anyway.
Shouldn't there a be a little of everything to cater for everyones tastes? Personally id knock the big singular cacke on the head and leave that for birthdays, Weddings etc... And have lots of little mini cakes.
