What is the name of the greek king who commited suicide after entering the forum with a weapon by mistake?

Hi,

someone once told me a story about a very popular greek king (don't know if it was exactly a king) who one day entered the forum/akropolis (or some other building) and forgot by mere mistake to leave his sword outside. The problem was that it was forbidden by law to do this and sentenced with death penalty. Even that everybody tried to convice the king that they understand that it was only a mistake, the king himself insisted on the penalty and commited suicide immedialty.

Does anybody know the name of the king and whether it is myth or history ?

erm there was a 20th century Greek king who died from a monkey bite - does that count?

I think it was George I - 1921 or 1922 -fell ill after a monkey bite from a pet and died. We now think that this was Monkey B virus. The political instability that resulted 'caused' the Turkish Greek war of 1922, when Kemal Ata turk ejected alll the Greeks from Asia Minor

OK I know this is a long shot - but you can check, it it did occur, except the bit about Monkey B
