does anyone know who said, society was becoming increasingly media led? must have been a sociologist from a while ago, but can't for the life of me remember, please help!!!!!!

Can't identify this direct quote as it's too vague and probably plenty of sociologists said the same thing.  However, I think you may be talking about Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980), author of Understanding Media.  His famous catchphrase regarding the mass media was "The medium is the message", and he suggested the media were making the world become a "global village", a phrase he popularised.  He's the academic who Woody Allen produces in the cinema foyer in Annie Hall.  More stuff on him at marshallmcluhan.com.
