London to Cairo in 2 days,in 1933?

Having just watched the 2nd of The Mummy films (The Mummy Returns) it got me thinking.
The baddies (Imhotep etc) manage to get from London to Cairo in 2 days (and he doesn't use his magic powers).
This takes place in 1933,when European travel was mostly by train and ship.
Can anyone say if this would be possible (or not)?
Of course the film was a US production, and so they would probably have no idea about such travel in 1933.
Just a thought,any comments are welcome!

it's 2183 miles from London too Cairo so a train would have to maintain an average speed of about 45mph for the entire 48 hrs, which is unlikely given the amount of water you'd have to cross

though there were certainly planes in 1933 that could have made the journey, the distance record for 1933 aviation was 5,657 miles and there were several other flights well over the 2183 distance that were completed in well under 48hrs.

during the 1st gulf war, it was reported that the reason so few americans continued to holiday in europe was because it was believed that a car journey to baghdad from london took only 3 hours.
