Me and the Mormons
23 Answers
Tonight , whilst walking to my good friend Jeffs with a tub of Co-op vanilla ice cream, I was accosted by two very polite boys of the Mormon persuasion who inquired if I "Loved Jesus". I said I did because of the two Bank Holidays he has given us. They laughed guardedly and then proceeded to tell me that God's prophet on Earth had spoken to them that night. I inquired if God's Prophet was in town, they again laughed guardedly and informed me that they had watched God's Prophet on a video link and he had given them an Easter message to tell the world. Well, this had obviously fired the boys up as there they were a'preachin to passers by such as myself with all the soul in their souls. Apparently God's Prophet nowadays is some (rich) bloke in America. They appeared surprised that I didn't really believe that. They told me why they believed it...... it was because they prayed one day and the realisation that this guy (I can't remember his name), was God's Prophet on Earth and that they should follow him.
I suggested to them that they believed this because they had had this suggested to them before they prayed and that their search for the answer succeeded because of the placebo effect of being told that spiritual enlightenment would be forthcoming. They believed they would find the answer and then they did, they appeared normal apart from their beliefs, was their experience a placebo effect?

i cant understand how anyone would know whos in charge. there are so many quorums and splitters it seems every man and his dog who wants some leadership in the mormons can set up a fairground stall and ask punters to roll up roll up.
so i reckon, they were eiether told or they asked the question in prayer and were answered. the latter being highly unlikely since, i bet even their god is coinfused. still dont mean they are right though.

From the internet:
//The LDS Church is organized in a hierarchical priesthood structure administered by men. Latter-day Saints believe that Jesus leads the church through revelation and has chosen a single man, called "the Prophet" or President of the Church, as his spokesman on the earth. The current president is Thomas S. Monson.//

ok, but what about....
The Church of Jesus Christ
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite)
Church of Christ (Temple Lot)
Curch of Christ with the Elijah Message
Church of Jesus Christ (Cutlerite)
Community of Christ, formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS)
they are all main branches of latter day saints "mormons" as i can see. i suppose the one you refer to is the largest of them all. but they could equally have been talking about stephen mark veazey, or paul palmieri.

Be careful with young "missionaries" - look at what can happen to them...... http://en.wikipedia.o...on_sex_in_chains_case
Yes they could have been talking about those people, but since the questioner specifically mentioned mormons I assumed he was talking about the Church of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The churches led by the people you mention are breakaway groups - The Community of Christ, and The Church of Jesus Christ, which, as far as I know, is no longer officially affiliated with any other church.
Lol, t was a large tub so I don't think it suffered too much, it was my excuse to get away also.
According to the leaflet they left me, they were from "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints", and I now remember that God's Prophet on Earth is indeed Thomas S Monson, whom they had just watched via video link.
I've also just noticed there's a freephone number on the leaflet where I can request a free copy of a DVD "The Lamb of God", a beautiful video about the last week of the Saviours mortal life (limit one video per houshold). I think I'll give them a call for a laugh one day. Seriously though, I'm sure the DVD is beautiful and cost a pretty penny to produce which leads me to believe Thomas S Monson and the rest of the top table aren't short of a bob or two.
