How to find out if someone has passed away?

I'm trying to discover whether an estranged family reletive had died! I've tried obituaries, newspapers, online searches, trying my hardest to not have to pay, the hardest bit is that I live in England and the possible deceased lived in scotland, does anyone have any suggestions!

If you're gonna pay someone, make sure you do it on a 'result or no fee' basis.

Have you tried getting somebody else to check online for you? They might think of other sites to check and used different search parameters.

Are you looking for a relatively recent death or is it quite a while ago?

If they died in Scotland then you should be able to view the death certificate on this website
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
But it will cost money. What part of Scotland were they in and how recent was the death?
