Travelling to Newquay from the North West on Friday 27th for Bank Holiday weekend.
Route will take us down the M6 then M5 then A Roads from Exeter to Newquay.
We are debating the best time to leave, midnight and drive through the early hours of Friday or how is the traffic going to be if we left at 5am on Friday morning??

Any suggestions, thanks??....

There are major road works on the M6 southbound at junction 10a to 8. I would want to be past them either before 6.30 am. Or take your chance and try around 11 am after the morning rush. You could also come off the M6 at junction 13 and follow the A449 all the way through to Wolverhampton and Kidderminster to Junction 6 on the M5 and watch out for the fools with the caravans.(the weekend gypsies)
I wouldn`t want to be approaching the West Country anytime after mid afternoon on the Friday. You`ll get caught with the people that left the South East after lunch. I`d leave maybe 2 or 3am on the Friday.

Seeing it is the August Bank Holiday weeked I would leave Wednesday !

Thanks for your suggestions - we will play it safe and leave sometime around 2am. That way we are getting a full day down there Friday and hopefully avoiding traffic en route!
