Does anyone know of these late 70`s Swindon punk bands....The Anikists,The Emptyheads,The X-ITS,or The Ray-Zors? Did any of them release any vinyl? The Anikists were the first punk band i saw live(i was 13 i think)and they had a HUGE effect on my life, not all for the best!

Best thing - musically speaking - to come out of Swindon IMO was XTC - of of the most fantastically underrated bands ever, and their 'alter ego' The Dukes Of Stratosphere...

Your question could almost certainly be answerewd by Andy Partridge if you can get hold of him somehow. I heard he still lives in Swindon.

I like XTC,more so now than years back...my sister-in-law used to play tennis with Colin Moulding, and my brother, who worked for BT,once had Christmas dinner with Andy Partridges mum after fixing her phone on Christmas day!
LOL..nice one.
Poor guy used to suffer excriciating stage fright apparently, shame really - I always thought he had a great energy eg...

the empty heads didnt release any vinyl, but if you search swindon viewpoint you will find a video. And as someone who was a first generation punk in swindon i havent heard of any of the others. There was in fact only the empty heads and the Purges between 1976 and 1979.

Cheers for that, and sorry it`s took a while to answer, but by god the Emptyheads were good(just watched em on swindon viewpoint) I should`ve also mentioned the Padlocks...i think they released Action man on that Songs from pigland compo and i`d love a link if you`ve got one......aparrently produced by the art teacher at what was my old school Hreod Burna(i got expelled) The Anikists i remember well,Ferndale school.......Birdy on vocals,Richard Kilford on lead,Pacer(Gary Pearce) On bass and Louie on stix....i watched em live a couple of times and i was always blown away.....i`ll never forget DC agro! DC agro is here to stay, the DC screws are gonna pay, gonna wipe em out in a single kill, and leave the country at a STANDSTILL!
Fair play by the way for being first generation punk,i was just a couple of years too young for 76/77,but i reckon i had it better by being the right age for the skin/punk/oi thing in the early 80's
I was the guitarist in the Ray-Zors and we made a compilation album called Music from Pigland with other Swindon bands.
