the chines dont have an alphabet made up of letters as such.  each symbol is actually a sound and may be made up of several of our letter-sounds

Wait for a while before getting a tattoo, G, as I conclude from your name that you are 'only' eighteen.

Then ask a Chinese person for a syllable that represents the first few letters of your name. They have to know you, and will suggest one that represents the sound and also their view of you.

This will save you the embarassment of being asked - as I went up to one man who was quietly having a pint in the sun, "why have you got the sign for 'shan' or mountain tattooed on your chest?"

and he said, Oh! I was told it was 'bad boy'

[well I'm sorry it's not....]

Oh Dear.
