What do you mean as safe? I consider any area of a modern urban area to be where extra vigilance would be wise.

its just off a very busy high street in a pretty well-off part of London.  About 2 mins walk from the tube.  As with any area with lots of people though, it would still be wise to keep an eye on your purse / wallet.

I used to go there in my lunch hour every day when I worked in Islington/Angel, as there are "normal" high-street shops all along the edge (if you see what I mean!)  Sainsbury's on the corner, a big Woolies, Marks...

Admittedly I stopped working there in 1998, but I never felt in the least threatened there, and I can't believe it's gone downhill THAT much since then even if the shops have changed - Islington has got posher, if anything!

Just to add - when I say I went to Chapel Market every day I mean I went to the street.  The market itself isn't open every day - I think it's closed on Mondays, as I recall.
