Mediums/circles/clairvoyancy

Have any of you ABers been involved in any of the above? What are your views on it? Is it a form of satanism or is it all about angels and spirit guides?.

Yes I have been. Been to the occassional seance. I used to regularly go to a spiritualist church, heard too much to just dismiss it all as some like to.

What views do you want ? It's a very open question. I think some mediums are clearly genuine because I can not explain why they would insist obscure information was correct despite all the denials, and later one finds they were correct. I think some get a better connection than others to wherever the information is coming from, for some are much less convincing. And I think it is an area easy open to fraud if someone thinks it is worth their while (but expenses to get to a church hardly seems worth it).

IMO it can not be a form of Satanism since I don't believe in any such entity. I don't think we need an outside influence to explain human failings. It's a bit of a miracle the human mind works at all, let alone has evolved to think and act as well as it does. So bad things (no matter how you define them) are an almost inevitable consequence of folk not being 100% perfect.

I find it difficult to categorise angels and spirit guides. My suspicion is that if you accept the existence of a spiritual realm, where entities can, in certain ways, manage to communicate with this realm, then the probability is that both as simply entities such as ourselves, some of whom wish to help their fellows on the path of existence. But I guess other explanations are possible too.

Bad experience with a Ouija board when i was a teenager.....havent dabbled in it since.

Mediums like Colin Fry and Derek Acorah, who are obvious fakes imo, probably dont do the practice of it any justice, as i have known people go to some and really get surprised by what they hear and are told about dear departed ones, so i remain a bit of a sceptic.

Would i go to one?......probably not........reason......i dont think there's anything to gain from it...... only doubt and possible worry.

I was invited to attend a circle but was too frightened at the prospect of what may come of it, so chose not to go.

So; I take it you'd not be scared to go to a pub you've not been to before, where you may see people you've not met previously, in case something happened, but you are fearful of going to a circle where, at most, you may experience those who have died but still seem able to communicate ? That seems a little inconsistent to me. Why would one fear the latter more than the former ?

If you are not keen then no one is forcing you, but why miss out on a possible experience ? One doesn't learn anything unless one investigates, otherwise the route taken is the way to simple blind faith, either for, or against. Besides I suspect the first one you attend is likely to be less than overwhelming anyway. If curiosity is piqued then you'd really need to go to quite a few; experience the times when communication seems good as well as those when it is a bit disappointing.

But my advice, if you want to take it slowly, is to try a few months of Sunday's at the local spiritualist church. It'll cost you no more than a voluntary weekly donation for the collection plate. Again not every visit will be miraculous, but you should find a few make you think, especially if the medium comes to you during that part of the service. If they do, remember, don't feed the medium; they are telling you, you are not there to blurt out things for them to agree to.

How can they know things only i know? Never met them before and dont give them any info, i barley spoke at all so how can they know!!

Watch David Blain, he has done amazingly accurate readings on people he has never met before, these people are totally convinced by him, he then admits to all how he does it, its very clever, he looks for facial expression, and tell tale sighns like body language.

They are all just a nasty, cruel con.

@ Old geezer: attending a pub is completely different to attending a circle where the intention of the people in attendance are to communicate with the dead! My attendance at a pub is to have a drink...

I thought I was the curious type but when I did my research into it and what the bible has to say about clairvoyancy - I decided against it. If I ever have a calling, then like you suggested, I may attend a spiritualist church. For now I'll stay at home and read a book.
