Mobile Phone Mast Protesters: Hypocritical?

Are people who object to mobile phone masts being erected in their area because of possible health repercussions on (mainly) children, being selfish and hypocritical if they own and use a mobile phone themselves? If they truly believe that there is a possibility that the masts are harmful, why are they content to use their mobiles, knowing that children elsewhere are being harmed?

They have to put them somewhere, if they want the service...we had a similar discussion years ago when we moved into a house with a big electricity pylon a few yards away.

Are they not protesting on behalf of everyone though to get the masts placed well away from any population. Same goes for pylons.
Mind you most people don't like them because they're an eyesore IMO.

To site mobile phone masts "well away from any population", Prudie, would mean that the phones would only operate when the users were "well away from any population.

Probably not the best phrase to use, I meant in a field a couple of miles away or high up on city buidings.

They are happy to hold a device beside their ear which creates a link with a mast or satellite miles away.

The waves passing through their heads when they use their phones must be way more that any background waves from a mast.

Would it be hypocritical to object to the construction of a sewage works behind your house while knowing that you'd be making use of it?

Very good point, Heath, but sewage farms don't have to be a limited distance away. Sewage pipes can run for miles, but phone masts have to be in the vicinity.

If they are willing to pay a high enough rental they can stick one in my back yard, at least that way I may get a decent signal now and again!!

They are willing to pay a high rental. A farmer I know has one in his field and he gets £11,000 per year for it. Have mobile phone masts been conclusively proved to be detrimental to health though? There have been lots of test that have come out even. I don`t think mobile phone users are hypocritcal for not wanting masts near them (if they have been proved to be unhealthy). I use electricity but I wouldn`t want a pylon in my garden.

The mobile phone companies pay good money to put the masts up which is why lots of schools go for it. Many don't succeed because of the objections but churches do - they just don't tell.
