What do you think about giving people on the dole food vouchers and a small amount of cash instead of all cash?
Do you think this could be a viable alternative and encourage out of work people to find a job if they want to spend money on luxuries?

I think that it would encourage people on JSA to spend less money on cigarettes and playstations. Many countries don't have any welfare, so why should our generous system pay for big tellies and Embassy No.1? It seems that people in Britain expect to own anything they want even if they can't afford it.

This isn't a rant. I would like to know if this system could work. I know that many peopel on the dole do struggle, but there also seems to be a few who know how to abuse the system. This system could help stop this maybe?

i don;t think you are wrong in wanting change, i'm tired of benefit abusers taking my tax money. i'm all for helping htose who need it but i don;t want to give money away to people who are taking the pee and not working because they can get away with it.

In the words of an acquaintance ' they're giving it to me for free why the **** should i work*

People need to be responsible for them selves. So a mother should be expected to take her children to the dinner hall. You see enough single mothers in McDonalds with their kids. What's the difference?

jack - Nicaragua and Albania. Also Colombia, but they might have a welfare system, I can't remember.

PETS? these are luxuries.
Lol, Clokey.

I think that is exactly what Mungbeanz would like!
Would you be happy to comply with all these measures you are suggesting if you were unfortunate enough to lose your job and couldn't find another one mungbeanz?
having a pet is not a luxury

It is for some
Not all single mothers are unemployed... and what about single fathers? Are they not considered as low as the mothers?
oi you cheeky sod mungbeanz!!!!! I'm out of work, I got made redundant not long ago, before that I hadnt been out of work for donkeys years. I don't have a playstation or smoke. I do however have a big telly which I bought from hard earned cash. Would giving me food vouchers encourage me to apply for more than the dozens of jobs I am already applying for? I doubt it, if I apply for any more my bloody fingers will fall off with all the filling in of application forms.... though I suppose then I may be entitled to claim some sort of sickness/invalidity benefit, however seeing as next week is the last week im entitled to claim jsa (contributions based) i guess its not worth finding out....

get here and get ya ass kicked!!!!
Hang on, Mung. What if you've had a dog/cat for years, and then find yourself unemployed? What happens then? Should you give the pet up because it's a "luxury"? Does the same apply to children? : /
No Daffy...single fathers are manning up and should be praised!!!

Single mothers in MacDonalds...seriously? Do they wear labels?

I was merely responding to ummmm that mothers can take their children out to dinner. single or not unemployed or not.

If i was unlucky enough to need JSA in the UK, then I would be grateful with what the state provided.
i consider getting a pet when you don't have to money to care for one selfish and inconsiderate
Flip, I suppose you could eat it!!!
Mungbeanz - How do you know they haven't just popped into MacDonalds because they were close by, doing other stuff?
the single mothers in our mcdonalds have to wear lables and sit in sections according to status
Wondered how he spotted them....
My (single mum) daughter sometimes nips into MacDonalds after picking the boys up from nursery when she finishes work and whilst waiting for the bus home.
Lol Ummmm. Good point!

in fact, you could take the pet to the food hall, and share it out!
