Scenario:

You have a 15 or 16 year old son who comes to you and say "Dad, Mom, (Mum), this is all a load of hogwash and I do not believe a word you say or what the Church preaches and the Bible is a lot of hogwash to explain the unexplainable.

He persists at this line and is adamant about it.

Do you kick him out of your house and family?

What would you do to a JW colleague in the same boat? Condone this action?

Just that there are reports that many JWs have done this to their offspring....

I've seen this happen in a family with JW parents.

Bet you tuppence they don't reply...
They will reply if they believe that their beliefs are justified.
My sister in law and her husband are JW's. Their children haven't been for years, and it is not a problem.
Jehovah,Jehovah,Jehovah...Oh,why dont you just ignore them..

Hi DTCF, hope you are well ? I know this question was not addressed to me, however I am going to stick my nose in ! When I fostered young children a few years ago I was given a choice of children for my approval . I would accept any race any age or ability but no JW s . I could not condone their beliefs.
JJ - Have you ever tried talking to a JW?

They will go on forever about their message, but have no interest in discussing this sort of thing, unless there's a bit of cut & paste I've not come across.

Do you want in on the bet?
aw, the kids wouldn't know no different flump ?
My experience of JW is anecdotal so I cannot say for certainty, but I think that it is the same as other religions. The mother of friend of my daughters was JW she gave up because her JW husband was an alcholic (I kid you not) her folks still speak to her.

So there are degrees.

My betting is on your horse too, Venator.....
i be they post a reply that has nothing to do with the question.
I had a very good friend at school who was a JW, her and her sister lived with their dad who was very strict. He beat her for getting her ears pierced, he also beat her when he found her in possession of a birthday card from me. He then hospitalised her when she ran away from home because she didn't want to be a JW any longer. Social Services removed her and her sister into care.
Ankou, they would have , I looked after ten to seventeen year olds !
flump, aint avin a go nor nuffink, just reading daffys post it should be all about the care and safety of the kids.
@flump - Kudos to you flump, for getting involved in fostering kids. I just wish the system would allow for more good hearted people getting involved.

Agree with Ankou but can also understand flump's concern.

My daughter had a JW friend at school and she got into trouble with a birthday card from a mutual school friend. Not easy to explain to a five year old why they can't celebrate Christmas, birthdays etc when Jesus, "Son of God" is so central to Christianity (and was to the JWs until they changed direction - just like that).
Venator ...

I don't get JWs, because they can't get into our block.

I wouldn't mind if they were a bit less serious.

We have a lot of occultists here, and they are a very jolly bunch. It's quite sexy, actually.

If I had to follow a mainstream institutionalised religion, I think I'd choose Voodoo.
You do the voodoo that you do so well.
Is there a church for that somewhere on the South Coast?
Do they go to church?
I spent 18 months in the company of JWs. They tried their hardest to convert me and I tried my hardest to convince them that, with a very small leap of imagination, they could be Buddhists. Both sides failed.
During that time I got to know many of them on a personal level and discovered that nearly all of them came into the sect at a particularly low time of their lives (bereavement, relationship failior, generally being alone for one reason or another). The JWs then fill their lives with meetings, door knocking bible classes etc.
Should they stray, the final sanction is ostracism.
They can reel them in, fill their lives and then threaten leave them in the poor state which they were found.
I think that's appalling.
DT: I don't think that it true. I know JW families who have children who don't follow the same religion. I also know of catholic and anglican families who have kicked out their children. Muslim & Hindus do to. In fact it has been said muslims will kill their children, wife, family etc if they try to leave the faith. I have looked at many so called JW sites. I don't believe everything I see and hear, I would rather speak to the persons involved personally before I judge. Unlike you. No doubt you will say this is a copy & paste too.
