Should you tip the owner of a hairdressers if they have done your hair?

Traditionall y the etiquette is that you don't tip the owner. If she/he is your regular stylist however, a nice gift at christmas and on his/her birthday if you know it is a good idea.

In the time it takes him to cut your hair, he's probably earned more than you'll make all month, so it would seem a bit odd to tip him a few quid.
So, as has already been suggested ... the tip would go to whoever were the most junior people involved in you cut ... hair washer, sweeper upper, or whatever.

They`re the person who is making all the profits so I wouldn`t bother. I have often wondered what the correct etiquette is though. There used to be a woman who answered etiquette questions in the Mail on Sunday and I asked her your question. She wrote back to me. She didn`t answer my question but told me to buy her book. I didn`t.
