Who was it that famously said something like that? Do you agree that this is a good maxim to live by. I did, once upon a time, in another life but now I'm a different person.

I always understood it to be 'never complain, never explain' but then I am not infallible.

Tilly2 - if you do something wrong then why would you have a problem apologising? If you confuse someone then why not explain?
I always seem to be apologising. Even when I am in the right!
I try to explain, but people won't listen!
Pardon, tenrec. lol
yep, john wayne, he also said 'That'll be the day' alot and 'not hardly' along with 'I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.'

most other things folks say he said are wrong
Hi Dotty

Is that line from 'The Shootist'?
You talking to me, Marion?
Always apologise if you think you're wrong.

My problem.....I rarely think I'm wrong :-)
That'll be the day was in The Searchers, I think. Buddy Holly saw it and wrote a song with the same name.
no, i think its an idiotic, arrogant and somewhat childish way to live.

if you owe someone an apology or you yourself feel sorry for your actions then you should do the right thing and apologise.

if you are misunderstood, or you have done something wrong, but for good reason perhaps etc then you should explain.

most people like this have a very different opinion when its them that require the apology or explanation....

you wouldnt get far in court if you stuck to that haha
Actually, John Wayne showed a little promise as a singer himself
