Cat Flea Problem: ?Bad Batch Of Frontline?

Greetings each.
Has anyone else encountered problems with the use of "Frontline Spot On" cat flea treatment? Does anyone know of a better remedy please?
I used to use Vet-Kem collars until they stopped using the organo-phosphate ingredient, as they then became completely useless!
I have three cats, one of them a "stray" Maine Coon who had been sleeping rough for Gawd knows how long before he landed here.
I find now that since the hot weather all three moglets drop flea eggs, so am rather inclined to blame my new arrival.
At the moment all cats live in the outside covered patio but, now the weather is getting colder they will no doubt be through the cat-flaps soon.
Applying Frontline fortnightly instead of monthly doesn't seem to have much effect either.
Ideas please?

Yup, its a known issue that fleas are becoming resistant to frontline. You need to talk to your vet about what is best to use in your area. and you also need to treat their living area and the house with something like RIP fleas.
Dont apply frontline more frequently as that can cause problems too.

Ask your vet for activyl, its a new flea treatment using a different chemical. I had the same problem as you but used activyl once and it cleared it up.

Yes there is a big problem with FL, and has been for a few years now. I can recommend Advocate and Stronghold, both very good. And I echo the advice to get RIP and treat your house or you'll never get rid of them. Good luck.

Agree with Ladybirder it has been really bad this year I work in a pet store. A lot of people have changed from frontline to advocate. ( Advocate will treat the home as well ) And you really need to treat the home. Flease will still jump on the cat or dog even when they have been treated they wont live very long and will jump off into your environment, lay up to fifty eggs and so the whole cycle starts again. I have used frontline for ten years now and touch wood have had no problems with my two dogs. A lady came into our store she had just come home from the park and when she picked her daughter up from the pram she noticed flease all over her baby blanket. She had put the baby on the grass. She had totrat her home. xx

Our vet doesn't favour Frontline because of possible allergic reactions.
We use ADVANTAGE once a month in the flea breeding season (May-July).
Never had a flea problem, even after his annual holidays in the local cattery.

Thanks for your input on this.
The problem has now been sorted as I immediately returned to my earlier regime of "annointing" the little darlings EVERY month, throughout the WHOLE year. That seems to have done the trick. :-)
I did consider using more powerful stuff BUT, that would have involved each of my three cats being examined by a vet before the stuff could be legally obtained. As I now live in a rather remote rural area, I dismissed that idea on account of cost and also because of unnecessary trauma to the cats.
You might be interested to know however that I now use "Fiprospot", which contains exactly the same amount of "Fipronil" as "Frontline" does, but is a darned sight cheaper! :-)
