You don't need a link Tambo, It's in / on the news daily.
One of my relatives 'works' in a food bank in a deprived area of the country. On Friday, they gave out food to 61 families/individuals who were handed enough food for three days.

i am still undecided about them.!!!!!!!!!! This is the UK, It's 2012, we are surposed to be a very rich country? i am still undecided about them, are you joking Lady, this is reality & this is the UK.
"We" TWR? Certainly not me.
But as to the thrust of your point then yes, it's a disgrace when expenditure is looked at in the round.
twr - i have lived through tougher times than the ones we are now experiencing and in some very deprived areas (i am not going to go into details) and as i said i am still undecided.

do not try to browbeat me with your very biased opinions!! I am not, you either agree or disagree with them," Simple"
not worth trying to have a discussion. bye.
Are you saying food banks are a bad idea?

Do you think it didn't happen years back? Children going hungry?

I wonder if it was one of those hungry children that thought it might be a good idea to start 'food banks'

This isn't about people on benefits, scroungers or the work shy, people have lost their jobs, they had a lifestyle their jobs paid for, once they've paid their mortgage/rent there's no money left for the bills or food.

We" TWR? Certainly not me. I should have re-phrased that Doug, Neither did I ??
There will always be poor people in all countries. It is relative. At least these people are getting help.

Are you saying food banks are a bad idea? What I am saying Ummmm, it should not be happening simple, this is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, & this is going on, there is something wrong somewhere.

It's 2012, it's no longer acceptable to live on bread and dripping!
Well said, ummmm. You are right these people are not scroungers. They are people who have fallen on hard times. The food banks are a lifeline to them.
Well there has always been food associated with charity - for several decades....and just read Dicken's Christmas Carol to realise that they were active in the mid 19thC.

However wealthy society, or not, witness the USA, Switzerland China and Nigeria to name but four at different parts of the richness scale, there are down and outs so it isn't necessarily economic, though I accept it is in part, particularly the numbers being seen this year.

So Food Banks are a necessity I would argue for.....a shame perhaps, but a necessity and better than doing nowt. Your argument I believe is skewed by your political thinking and unemployment numbers, which are now turning, thank God, and the number of new jobs keeps on bouncing upwards, something that the Labour Party do not like. Skewed geographically yes, but growth has to start somewhere and be built on.

So overall, yes, thank goodness we have them and the charity of those who provide at this time of year (and other times).
Charity begins at offshore bank accounts!
Food banks are a good idea, end of.
Just wonder how 'poor' some of the recipients are?

What are the qualifying criteria?
