Milkman

Chap just knocked on the door and said "Local milkman".
We used to have a milkman when I was a kid , but we simply buy milk from Tesco now days in 6 pint containers.
The days of bottles of milk being left on the door step seem a life time ago.
Does anyone else still have a milkman ?

- More expensive than supermarket
- Milk sits on door step all day , if they arrive after we have left house - Dear robber we are out
- Hassle of payment
- Cancelling of delivery for when we are away ...and then they forget and leave milk anyway (last straw , when we stopped delivery some 12 years back).

Funnily enough we had similar experience, with a knock on door two weeks ago, OH went and man stood there saying he was a local milkman, would we consider having doorstep milk? OH patiently explained that we had stopped delivery a few years ago as milk in glass bottles had got too expensive and it was going sour quickly due to us being out all day, also the delivery was sometimes unreliable - that's why we stopped and we now get cheaper milk from supermarkets. To OH's amazement milkman replied in a real aggressive tone " Expensive? expensive? don't you CARE that I and other milk workers like me have families to support?" His tone of voice was like a red rag to a bull to Hubby who does not like conducting business on the doorstep and told him to leave promptly! Hardly the way to drum up business in a neighbourhood, is it?
