In my experience a lot of self-declared patriots think it means love of Britain's countryside and certain selected institutions like the monarchy.
I would argue that a country is in reallity the sum of it's people
Unfortunately most 'patriots' seem to detest the majority of their fellow countrymen.

I actually dislike patriotism Highbrow. As AP says, it's the stuff that wars are made of and anyway, imagine someone "won" the whole world. Where exactly do you go if you don't like it?
