One Of Life's Mysteries
23 Answers
I have spent three and a half hours today, edging the lawn and titivating the flower beds. I have done the same thing for the last twenty years in this garden and I've still ended up with a bucket full of stones.
Where do these stones come from? Every year I get them out and the following year they are back.
What other 'life's mysteries' have you experienced?
I am not accepting multiplying coat hangers or disappearing/mutliplying biros and or socks..............

I cannot possibly put them out of reach as I'm laid under the car and don't move about much but, where have they gone. Even when I get out they are still missing. Perhaps 13mm spanners are the good ones and they have gone to heaven. I can always find those evil 10mm spanners though I sometimes wish they would go to Hell.
The stones keep appearing because the Devil and his workers are pushing them up. Though it could just be that water percolates down and some rests under each stone. When it freezes and expands the water pushes the stone upwards. The repetition of this process eventually brings the stone to the surface.

if you like breakfast cereal with dried fruit in and get annoyed when it all settles to the bottom of the box, before you pour out your portion, hold the box on its side and shake it from side to side. The fruit will all sift to the side of the box that is on top and when you turn the box up the right way, it will be evenly distributed throughout the depth of the box.
I remember many years ago, we hadn't lived there long and were sorting the garden out, we had raked the ground for a lawn, it was a huge plot and had picked a mountain of stones of half of it. My mother visited and saw the pile, she asked where do they all come from. We told her they grew in the soil until the lawn covered it. She believed us and told her friends all about the growing stones. Very gullible lady. We had a job to keep our faces straight.
