It is not my homework, and Olympics. I'm from Russia, help please. PS read the book, we can not answer!
reading the book is the answer! not reading the book won't work will it? if it is not homework chill out and read the book and make notes about the salient points

Perhaps you did not read the translation of this work in Russian. Yes, but I'm interested in the answer. Sorry for my english, only studying!
There's a very good resumé of the book here that seems to answer some of your questions:

You should also read the other three novels and 56 short stories. Although rather dated in their attitudes to both foreigners and women, they are very well-written tales.
so what is it then?

and what has olympics got to do with it?

if you are just curious and the book is a bit much - watch the tv shows etc
I agree with the others

Like you Serege I havent read the book so dont really know
for a long time I thought the Grimpen Mire was in The Moonstone.
You know the thing Limping Lucy falls into.

It isnt just in case someone goes off and starts reading.....
