Ireland is giving E7 million, sorry it's Euro not £.
I am more interested in why British aid for Pakistan will soar from £267m now to £446m in 2014/15 - when 70% of their MPs pay no tax

Damned outrageous.
... particularly, sir.p, as it's believed that they are now the breeding ground for terrorism in some quarters.

Ireland is borrowing 6 million Euro to give to african charities and with interest it comes to over 7m Euro.
Why can't we, for one year only, not give any foreign aid to ANYONE, no exceptions?
It would help fill a massive hole in the huge financial deficit we find ourselves in now?

Sorry to jump into your thread Gran67 but it was relevant.
I believe that apart from the smaller organisations that actually physically help the unfortunate to help themselves with education, tools, farming methods, irrigation etc., most of the money collected by the more famous charities is siphoned of by legal deductions and criminal funds diversion in the destined countries.

No need to apologise Mass-hysteria, it's all relevant .
I guess the government feels it needs to share global resources about more evenly even if it means they make things slightly more difficult for themselves. Not just altruistic either since it never hurts to have foreign countries feel they owe you. The major issue is whether the aid does what is intended of it by the giver.
//countries feel they owe you.//
It doesn't work that way its been found recipient countries think it's their right but also recent having to accept it. It makes them feel inferior .
. . . and when is it our turn to receive aid?
So they'd feel better if it wasn't offered and they had to cope without it then ? Or do they feel more favourable to those who fulfilled what they see as a right, or those who reneged on it ?
Foreign aid is mostly spent employing one's own population to provide goods and services to needy places.
we give India etc aid , and call centre jobs ..while we are cutting back and belt tightening its a farce.
It's more like 700 million euro I think(!)
