What Is A Fair Rent For A Lodger Who's Related?

My boyfriend's brotherr has recently moved in with us and plans to stay long-ter. But shortly after he moved in, I lost my job. I'm looking for full-time employment, but we are seriously struggling on my boyfriends wage.

His brother gives us £50 per week for his food, but nothing towards bill.

We have to pay £575 per month Rent, plus Council Tax, Water Rates, Gas and Electricity, plus food and other shopping.

My boyfriend earns just over £200m per week and we;re falling behind with all our bills.

IO have suggested that his brother pays 1/3 towards all our house-hold bills, which I think is more than fair, especially as he earnsAT LEAST £100 per week MORE than my boyfriend. He gets the same benefits as we do, so I can't see what the problem is.

I charge my nephew £80 per week including dinner. Of course he can help himself to coffee/tea/toast/cereal etc...

He should pay 1/3 if he's living in the house the same as you two. If he's living in his room then maybe less.

I think you need to list the bills clearly' including food, and insist he pays one third. If he doesn't agree, ask him to leave. Its that simple......x

If he was to share a house with others he would be looking to pay between £80 to £100 per week without food. If you are struggling & you had a different lodger that is what you would charge.

Assuming he earns £200 a week, not £200m, I think £50 a week is a very reasonable rate. A third is fairer- assuming the costs are around £1000 a month including food and council tax then that means £333 each. That's about £80 a week. As the bills for energy may go up I suggest a figure of £90.

I agree with the others, he should pay a third of all costs.

If he objects I would tell him to look for alternative accommodation. If he does move out and you are still struggling financially then get someone who will pay an even share of the costs.

he should be paying 1/3 of everything, that is, rent=192. per mth. plus 1/3 council tax, water gas and electricity. he could buy his own food plus continue giving 50 for his food. if u had someone renting the room, i am sure that u would have negotiated similar amounts. u do not mix business with pleasure

My boyfriends brother lived with us. We charged him £250 per month and split cost of food. Dont forget he'll be using your internet, watching sky if you have it and maybe your phone.
