Why Are Muslim Extremists So Barbaric?

They don’t just kill their hostages and those they perceive to be enemies – they subject them to the most brutal and bloody methods imaginable. Simply horrendous! If they want them dead, why not just shoot them?

It is just very fortunate that most Muslims arent affected to the same degree and dont follow the teachings of Quaran.

I think it is because they are ruled by their emotions rather than their intellect. It seems to me that a relatively small number of cynically calculating, imams with megalomaniac leanings, manipulate a bunch of easily led emotional people who have lost their ability to reason due to repeated exposure to a religion based on control. Once reason and individual responibility is replaced by faith and blind obedience then atrocities are often the result.

Chris, //It's simply to terrify their enemies.//
I can understand people shooting to kill, but I seriously cannot understand a mindset such as this, one completely and utterly devoid of empathy or compassion for the pain of another human being. After the slaughter in Woolwich, that madman’s performance when he stood there holding a meat cleaver dripping in blood telling us we will never be safe made my blood run cold.

I was in Belfast on the 19th of March 1988.
Myself and a couple of colleagues had popped up from Armagh City to do some shopping.
As we walked around the city centre, we noticed the heli activity and remembered it was Mac Brádaigh's funeral. No big deal, we were safe enough and would be nowhere near it.
On our return to Armagh, the news headlines were talking of an attack.
My legs turned to jelly and I nearly vomited as the horror of knowing I'd been only a mile or so away from Corporals Wood and as they were attacked, stripped and savagely beaten by a baying mob, ending in execution.
The attack in Woolwich brought all that back.
