I cannot understand what special things Tony Robinson has done to deserve a Knighthood. And yet Rowan Atkinson gets just a CBE. I found Tony Robinson totally obnoxious in Time Team. Even one of the Archaeologists left because he was always poking his nose into everything. He is certainly nothing special.

Your letter Patsy is word for word exactly what I would have written. There are far more deserving folk out there & as for being given a Knighthood...the mind boggles. (Can't stand the bloke. jem.

it was for public and political service, not for servies to entertainment. Atkinson's was for services to drama and charity. I don't know if drama includes comedy; if not, neither was for Blackadder.

I think it was richly deserved!
;o)
I believe it was for his work on anti-poverty lobbying and associated charity work.

Great fan of 'Blackadder' and 'Time Team' (although find TR quite obnoxious on there at times) but very surprised that he has accepted a Knighthood, knowing his political views it seems a bit surprising. Thought he was anti 'rewards' 'gongs' etc?
They are clearly scraping at the bottom of the barrel this year.
It was deserved (if any of them are) for publilc service, not for being Baldrick.
Should imagine it's hard to weed out a "celeb" that's now not involved with THAT scandal!
I'll pass that message on to my friends and colleagues who received recognition Maydup.
.. and let's be accurate, Mick Aston left Time Team because he didn't like the change of presenters and format, nothing ever mentioned about not getting on with TR.
A witty comment from him in response to his award too....

Robinson was quoted as saying "I’ll use my new title with abandon to highlight the causes I believe in, particularly the importance of culture, the arts and heritage and the plight of the infirm elderly and their carers," adding, “I also pledge that from this day on I’ll slaughter all unruly dragons, and rescue any damsels in distress who request my help.” .
A knighthood for goodness sake for public and political service and digging.

What a load of old Baldricks.

And what the 'ell has Rowan Atkinson done; or even Clare Balding?

The whole honours system is hogwash.
sir.prize,Totally Correct,well said.
Well said, sir.prize!
There is a difference in slating the recipients and slating the whole Honours system.
I'm not a fan of the honours system and never have been. The only reason anyone gets an honour is because they know the people who know the people who dish them out. Its daft and old fashioned.

maydup....I think we were separated at birth!
To Jill Stein, director of the Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, Cornwall . . .an OBE for services to the restaurant industry.

And of course an MBE for TV host and comedian Rob Brydon.

Pathetic innit?

three quarters of the honours went for local charity or community work.

But I expect they all secretly knew Cameron?
so what do the complainers think? They should get honours themselves or nobody should?
