Why Do So Many People Walk Around With Their Phone Constantly In Their Hand If Not To Their Ear??

Why do they feel they need to be in touch with people every minute of every day? Is every conversation a life or death situation that cannot wait? My phone is for emergencies only.

We save that for when we see each other. Texts are often just sharing information as everyone is so busy. We all work different hours/days/nights/weekends and have children to look after, so it sometimes is a mission to meet up. I also use my phone for AnswerBank- which is acceptable, surely?:-)
Most of the day my phone is in my bag. At home I use it to go online or answer my nightly call from my dad or to play my bubble game.My phone is pretty much always on silent cause I'm not called often enough to be in any danger of missing a call.
The one thing I hate is when people are trying to read/text while walking and paying no attention to where they're walking or indeed how slowly. That can be irritating.

It's an age thing which does seem incomprehensible to my generation (the 42 in my ID reflects my year of birth Andy) but for youngsters who start on this path at a very tender age it becomes part of their lifestyle - nothing odd at all about that even although we Oldies might think it stunts their intellectual growth. 50 years from now today's gadgets will probably be looked at with amazement or nostalgia, depending on the age-group.
