Grammar Schools And Their Equivalent In The Usa...

You sometimes read that people supported grammar schools because they gave children from working-class families who passed the 11+ greater opportunities. Are there similar schools in the USA and would there be a path for a child from a poor family to get into them?

As far as I am aware-there is not an equivalent. State Education requirements,and how they are administered varies from state to state. Of course-there is always the private route,as here.

According to pastafreak's link, under " Educational issues", schools have a system called tracking whereby pupils are graded and streamed according to their academic abilities. But there is evidently no equivalent of the 11 plus to grade students and send them, at that age, to whole schools for the supposedly more academic.
