The Prime Minister, who was speaking at the annual Westminster Correspondents dinner, recounted an anecdote about a day spent canvassing with the Mayor of London in Hampstead, North London. He said: “This very attractive middle-aged woman came to the door and said, ‘Boris! Lovely to see you. You are the father of one of my children.’ ”
Mr Cameron told how the Mayor’s “white hair stood up on end”, before adding: “I can’t remember all the words that came out, but there was a lot of ‘Cripes’ and ‘Oh God’. This went on for about ten minutes.”
The Prime Minister said that Mr Johnson remained flustered until the woman said: “No, you’re the father of one of my children, your daughter — I’m her maths teacher.” [The Times]

Dear me. Anyone else think that humour is not something that the PM should try ? And certainly not if he's picking on Boris; the replies will be funny and damaging

I think the same Fred. Do you think it might be a sign of madness?

its really powerful stuff!! .. he is suffering from a type of Eaton nostalgia perhaps...... Boris no doubt will have a plan to get him when he least expects it and it will hurt. With a bit of luck Boris will also strangle Dave with a London bicycle.

I bet we are paying for someone to write these Dave gags which is another bad joke.
The man's a cretin.
It is a funny story but not one that should be told merely for political points.

Boris revenge will be sweet and much more amusing.
its a good anecdote, but the PM doesn't do waspish wit all that well, but Boris does, beware the Ides of March...
Well, its an old joke but a reasonably good one. I am sure that if the tables had been turned, and Boris was telling the joke, it would have gone down much better.

I have made this point many times before on AB but we underestimate and ignore Boris at our peril. He is highly intelligent and extremely capable. Behind that facade of wild hair, and circus clown antics, lies a very astute political mind, perhaps the best of his generation.

He knows that he just has to wait in the wings patiently. If the Men in Grey Suits had done their job properly, they would have ditched dave in favour of Boris long ago. But the Tories are now facing defeat. I have no doubt whatsoever that Boris will be in Number Ten at some time in the future.
whilst i agree about Boris, there is no done deal on the next election.

that is not a good place to judge anyone, after all the blustering Brian Blessed came across as funny in a bellowing sort of way,
Chewn...I repeat, don't underestimate Boris !
I love Brian Blessed. His Augustus was marvelous. Why aren't the Beeb making programs like "I Claudius" any more ?
Can't wait until Boris is leader of the Tories. But I bet the incumbent labour leader wont be so pleased!

Fred, I agree, humour is not one of Camerons strong points. Being spineless is though.

ymg...what a pity that when Boris is Leader of the Tories, they will be opposition.

sure i could post other politicians making fools of themselves, saying stuff they shouldn't, Blair perhaps, or Mandelson, none are immune,
