Why do authorities state that only 8% of the GB population are foreigners?

Are they the same authorities that have recently doctored the crime figures?

perhaps because it's true. I suspect it largely depends on your definition of foreign

remember the children of foreigners that are born here .... are British

The census figures apply to the UK and not just Britain- so not completely accurate here, but gives 11.3% as foreigners in the UK.

so depends how many in Northern Ireland, really.
I doubt the police have much input as to the figures in this instance but what do you say it is and what is it based on?

That must mean that where I was today, must have all & everyone of these 8% there in this one place at that particular time!!!!!!!!

I will ask our local head teacher whom has two thirds of non-English speaking pupils in her school, what her DEFINITION is!!
Can we have a link to the 8% statement? What part of the country are you living in?
Where do the non-English speaking pupils in that school come from?
Are two thirds of the population of GB foreign then? Perhaps the Office for National Statistics should scrap the next Census and just ask that headmaster?

Naivety is so common amongst our so-called educated classes. Nobody has a clue as to how many illegal immigrants are in this country.
If no one has a clue, how do you know it's not 8%?

Get in the real world....!
What do YOU think the figure is then?

Sherr - he met over 8% of the population where he was today...
If being British means being a one-eyed racist like 'has', then add me to the foreigners ...
I don't understand your point, or are you just generally outraged that foreign people live here? What, if anything, are you cross about?
I'm foreign....I live here....don't think I'm a bother.....neither is my daughter who entered England as an illegal....... :-(
Explain, has.

Many many people with coloured skin (for example) are British nationals, not foreigners, and have lived here for years, or are second and third generation born here. Where were you?
We have less then 8% in our county and in fact in our whole region. Its a national average so not necessarily applicable to your street or mine.
It's about 10% here in Kent, but that's by people's own definition of their ethnicity of origin, I wouldn't call that "foreigners".
8.3% was the figure in the 2001 census. The latest figure (not census-based) seems to be 11.3%.
When we lived in Aylesbury the (technically) catchment school for boy #1 had 21 different first languages. The school he went to was completely 'white'. Here in Hereford there are lots of Polish people, people from Portugal (there must be, there is a Portuguese cafe) and very, very few not white people. There are probably more transvestites here than foreign people (apparently Hereford is a transvestite hot spot).

However, I digress, still not sure what the actual issue is.
