As a non-religious person, I don't believe in Astrology either, but it does make some sense why earlier cultures did. At least they had something solid to support their believe, not just faith. The sea tides must also have been very puzzling for them.

Probably something to do with the massive distances of the stars involved.
Atheists are not necessarily against astrology. In fact, many people who do not believe in God have been known to use astrology to predict their future. However, they tend to look at it from a scientific perspective rather than believing that it can actually tell them what will happen in the future.
