Ena, if you're looking in, I miss you!
I miss her too...
Sorry srooty nine ...slight deviation there, yes sleigh bells glistning etc.
As do I.
I remember how I found out, one Christmas eve I heard rustling at the bottom of my bed, I slowly opened one eye and in the dark I could see a figure, putting presents in the sack that I had left out for him, I sat bolt upright, it was my mum, I said, 'Mum, what are you doing'?, she replied, 'Sorry son, its me, there is no Santa', I said, 'What, no Santa'?, 'Sorry son' she again replied, I said, 'But mum, how long have you had a key to my flat'!!!!
What truth? He's real and so is the Easter Bunny.
When I was a kid he left presents at the foot of my bed.
O.K. Hankies at the ready.

As a youngster - I would guess about 6 or 7 - and as the tallest of all the children in my primary school I was put in a Santa suit for the Christmas Nativity play.

Kind of made me think - well I'm not the real Santa - hes in the shop in town - so maybe he's just someone in a costume like all of them! So who or where is the real one?

One very confused young child/Santa.
I still remember discovering the truth about Santa . . . like it was yesterday :o(

one xmas eve, i was about 5 maybe 6 & we'd put out the carrots & cabbage for the reindeers, whisky (that should of been my first clue) and a mince pie and we were sent off to bed. i couldnt wait for my stocking so i stayed awake for santa, pretending to be asleep but sneaking peeks out from under the duvet

in walks my father start bollock naked, dumps my stocking on the end of the bed & walks out again.

that was the end of santa for me
I find youngsters are a lot more canny these days, they go on pretending to believe just to satisfy their parents.
For those who don't know, there are four stages.
1 you believe
2 you don't believe
3 you are Santa
4 you look like him.
I don't remember ever believing in Santa.
Santa is my friend around Christmas time. Now that I'm retired he is still my friend. Until he stops bringing me present, he will always be my friend.
I'd like to see Father Xmas ( sorry, but I am British, not American ! ) try to get down my chimney, as I shall be in my caravan until 28th of the month !
I was born in 1953, and the Americanisation of the planet was yet to be complete, hence we had Father Xmas, not Santa Claus. I can remember very clearly, sitting around the piano at my Primary school, being read Father Xmas stories by my teacher, so I guess I would have been about 5 years old.

I recall being entirely entranced by the elves, reindeer, etc. The concept of him coming down our chimney was a little alarming however. We, in common with most people in the 1950's, didn't have central heating and had open coal fires instead, and I remember pleading with my Father not to light the fire on Xmas Eve, because Father Xmas would be terribly burnt, along with all my presents !

I was quite content with the essentially irrational idea of this one person managing to get around every home in the world, in the one night, to deliver presents. But reality kicked in when I was about 8 I suppose, when I realised that he couldn't possibly to do this and that various aunts and uncles were responsible for the carefully wrapped gifts, ably assisted by Hamleys.

Happy days !
