Mrs stuey and I "bought" a goat for a family in Africa through a charity. Which one I don't know...I often wonder if they will actually get the animal: I certainly hope so.

This probably sounds very cruel and heartless but I would rather give a couple of hundred quid and a few wrapped kids presents to the Salvation Army Appeal. 100% of what you give goes to the needy, not to pay off corrupt government officials in third world countries, or charity 'muggers' on the high streets of UK

And no charity can give 100% of donations to its charitable causes. There are overheads to be paid as well as the Salvation Army ministers wages and allowances.

no, i did not I said I prefer to donate to causes on my doorstep not in third world countries with tin pot dictators taking a wadge.

Oh and thanks for the child abuse link - although it is in Australia- but don't let that small fact spoil things.

BTW I'm not in the least bit religious and don't even celebrate the fictitious birthday of a fictitious character in a book of fiction. I just think the Salvation Army does sterling work in this country and deserve to be donated to.

I support 2 Charities all year round by DD, any extra I give at this time of year goes to UK Charities who I know use the donations properly. I have no intention of helping to buy another Rolls Royce or Private Jet for a foreign dictator

quite a lot actually as the whole purpose of my post was to say I support UK charities above those in foreign countries. The last time I looked at a map I don't think Australia was in the UK

Oh if only it was so easy, how many of theses charities have been operating for years and getting nowhere? I supported a charity in The Gambia and Ethiopia and what happened? Those who were starving starved , those who were administrating thrived, I now stick to local charities, sad to say . Change has to come from within. Sorry

There are site's throughout the world that is run by Roller Driving, Jets for Pleasure, party's every other day Dictators Canary, you can direct your concern to them, there are a few around our area at work, pay Taxes & use food banks, this is the UK & the UK Should come first.

So that's about 2 million children dying a year then. If it costs just £1 a day to feed each one that's three quarters of a billion quid per annum. Of course each of these survivors will probably go on to have five or six children per couple, multiplying that sum threefold in a generation. And each of them..... (I'm sure you get the idea).

Current World population growth is unsustainable (not to say undesirable) even with these tragic deaths. For people in these areas to continue to produce large numbers of children is as sensible as encouraging cats to have more and more kittens because many of them end up in a sack at the bottom of the canal. If any money should be spent it should be spent on measures which will stabilise and preferably reduce the population.
