I received loads of Xmas cards in the post where the stamp on the envelope hadn't been franked. I now have a foolproof method of removing the stamps intact.
Put some water in a saucer and add ONE drop of washing up liquid. Swoosh it around with your finger until dissolved.
Tear the stamp off the envelope leaving a half inch margin of envelope paper still attached. Float it on the water with the stamp facing up.After approx. 30 minutes, the stamp will peel off with ease. Dry it out on a piece of kitchen roll with the stamp facing down. Hey presto!
I will now sit back and wait to be attacked by someone for diddling Royal Mail out of revenue.

BTW this does not work on stamps on jiffy bags :-(
Good thinking Mrs O....but I wish I had known this before I recycled about 50 envelopes before Xmas !
Question Author
mikey, coming from Yorkshire....that breaks my heart
This was discussed last year on Jeremy Vine's R2 show....you do know it's fraud and an offence and punishable by goodness knows what...?!
Question Author
Did I mention re using them to post letters?
This tip is..... erm...aimed at stamp collectors
In that case...thankyou...I am one of that type of stamp collectors!
Question Author
You are very welcome. I suspect there are a lot of stamp collectors on here lol
Sorry to burst your bubble OP but what you are suggesting is actually illegal.
Question Author
retrochic, how is it illegal to remove stamps to add to my collection? I have NOT suggested that anyone should re-use them
Mrs O I have been doing this for years but with just warm water, but lately the stamps have been thinner & tear and I have not been so successful. I have noticed this xmas that half the stamps on xmas cards sent to me have not been franked.
Question Author
Morning Dee. I have noticed the same thing but the drop of washing up liquid makes a difference

Thank you for that Mrs O, I can see my collection growing nicely from now on.
OP why, in that case make reference to 'diddly the Royal Mail' out of Revenue? And if the stamps were for your 'collection' why make reference to the fact they were not franked?. If you were a keen philatelist you would be quite aware that franked stamps have much more value than unfranked ones.
Tight *** lol lol
Im not even going to mention my MP3 collection of over 20.000 tracks then. Oh, I'm an MP3 collector but never play them. :-)
Crime of the century. You should all be locked up and the keys throwing away. Or even hung :-)
Question Author
Retrochic, that comment was written because I knew someone like you would come along and have something to say.
What I have in my stamp collection is of my concern.
I repeat, I am NOT suggesting that anyone should do anything illegal
Question Author
PLease note: this tip also applies to franked stamps for those of you who prefer to collect these
Question Author
Ratter, you are nothing but a common criminal!
oh 'someone like me' - that would be someone that buys their own stamps then.... come off it -if I'd posted something like this the usual suspects would be outa the woodwork in a flash tut tutting. What ho! I can hear the back peddling from here....and the 'outrage'...and wait for it.....
