I thought that's what I'd included by saying "but others can". I can control my own destiny to some extent, in the decisions I make, but the decisions of other will play a huge role too. If I chose to apply for this particular university, or that course, rather than another; as compared to the University's choice to accept me or not.
I don't think then that I, or anyone else, has complete control, but we certainly have some say in our own lives. It's tempered by the decisions of others. I wouldn't like to quantify the balance between my control, and everyone else's, though.

you can try but outside influences can shape your life for better or worse. just look at some people's lives, they have lives that they could not have predicted good and bad.
We all start out with good intentions but just look at the problems you see in the world and in daily life, I don't think anybody has set out to achieve this sort of destiny which would suggest that outside factors contribute more to life than we think.
