We have tried our utmost to be reasonable with them and have at times gone the extra mile, but to no avail. Vicky Pollard in particular tells her husband the most outrageous lies about us, which fires him up and the next thing we know is he is banging on the door, ranting like a madman.
We have given up trying.

One recent example - they had an extension built. No problem.
When WE had an extension built, later the same year, he appeared on the doorstep ranting that we hadn't had the courtesy to let them know.
Mr O pointed out that THEY hadn't had the courtesy to let us know.
On that occasion he slunk off with his tail between his legs

I'm lucky enough to have a good, quiet neighbour now, but I used to have a nightmare ones. Loud music and shouting at all hours. They almost drove me mad. I tried to have a quiet word, but they seemed to think they could behave as they liked. It only ended when I moved out.
Are you having a problem, Cybercabz?

3 houses up one shared drive. Not so much a problem with the neighbours but they both have gates so their friends/visitors park on the drive, making it difficult for us to back our cars out to turn into the drive.
Apart from that, no problem. The occasional party but music is always turned down at 11pm.

Nearest neighbor here in our part of the western U.S. is nearly 3 miles away if one saddles up and rides cross country... more like 5 miles by county road. All are great... except that time and again, if I'm having difficulty with a problem with livestock, a fence repair, a water pump or other such, I can count on, mid-way through the work, being pleasantly surprised by a soft Texas accent (yep, Bart's a transplant) behind me saying "Ya'll need some help?" I haven't figured out yet how he does that...
Just read your post about your neighbours' cats. We used to have a similar problem, and then a friend gave us a tip. Get one or two imitation dogs, the bigger the better, plut them in the garden and the cats will think they are real and keep away. Moved them around to keep the cats duped. It worked for us. One poor dog only has three legs now, one having broken in a storm.
