Religion itself isn't sick, however the people who believe they're following their religion to the letter sometimes are.

Extremism, adhering to old "understandings" that are no longer applicable can be an issue. As can intolerance (especially extreme intolerance) of others' viewpoints. But not religion per se, which is at root simply an belief/understanding or spiritual matters that is held held by a large group.

Naturally any such group and it's authorities can abuse power, as can those unable to understand but who just take things literally; but that isn't the same as religion being sick.

One might as well level the same criticism at atheism the next time an atheist decides they can do what they like to others for there is no reason to believe in a general frame of good & bad, or whatever. If there is responsibility it is with the individual who misunderstood.

No comparison whatsoever. Atheists think and act by their own volition. Atheism carries no doctrine.

Why no comparison ? If atheism allows acting on one's own violation and then one of the followers of that belief acts badly, isn't that then a just criticism of the creed of choosing for yourself ? Everyone acts as they believe to be ok, no avoiding it.

Whilst decrying the awfulness of this massacre, I must say that If I found myself in a country where the population was 90% Muslim, 9% Hindu and I was in the 1% opposing everything in which they believed, I would tend to not shout about it but try to find some other way of registering my views.
Also you will certainly find that the vast majority of Bangladeshis are as horrified at this kind of mindless extremist violence as we are.
